Discovered by Christopher Columbus on his famous voyage in 1492, The Dominican Republic sits on the northern boundary of the Caribbean, just 54 miles west of Puerto Rico. The DR, as it is commonly known, is much more latin in flavor than many other islands in the Caribbean - spanish is the native language and the merengue is the dance, of which just about every Dominican is proud!
Cabarete, on the north coast 20 miles east of Puerto Plata, is, arguably, the "Mecca" for kiteboarding in the Caribbean, if not the world! The consistent, reliable summer trade winds (predominant winds are NE), winter waves and the plethora of no-wind diversions (canyoning, mountain biking, kayaking, whale watching...) attract both novice and experienced kiteboarders alike!

| Wind and Meteo in Cabarete- Dominican Republic |
Prime season in the DR is June, July and August, when afternoon thermals can kick up the wind to 25-30 knots!
May, September, October and November are rainy months, so wind is less reliable. December and January can be good, and, along with February and March, usually provide some epic wave riding! April is out with the jury.
