| Great Exuma, The Exumas Kiteboarding Holidays with OzoneTravel |
|
The Exumas are made up of 365 islands and cays (think about it!) and cover 100 miles of stunningly beautiful water! It is a kiteboarders dream!
The possibilities are quite endless, here - although you can find nice waves and wide open riding on the Atlantic side, what makes The Exumas special are the miles and miles of flat, clear, shallow water amongst the cays and sandbars!
Georgetown, the capital, is an excellent place from which to base your adventure! Rent a car and hit the many kite spots along the coast, or take a Kiteboarding Kastaway day (2 days are included with all Ozone packages) and kite your "own Private Idaho" in one of the many clear, shallow bays. Or, rent a boat yourself and go explore! Whatever your pleasure...
The town itself is centered around Lake Victoria, is classic in its Bahamian style, is relaxed and easy-going - and is one of the friendliest places you will ever visit! The Exumas have always been well known amongst boaters, yachtsmen, fishermen and the occasional wandering circumnavigator as a little string of pearls in the islands; in recent years, though, it has become much more mainstream, welcoming visitors from all over the world who seek the tranquility and beauty of The Bahamas, without the glitzy and noisy tourism of casinos and wild nightlife. |

| Kiteboarding experience in Great Exuma, The Exumas |
As fantastic as the kiteboarding is in The Exumas, it also offers worldclass fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, SCUBA diving and, yes, golf! (A Greg Norman championship golf course is open at the beautiful Four Seasons Emerald Bay Resort.) Want to treat your non-kiting partner to something special - The Four Seasons also has a day spa! Really, there is something for everyone - couples, friends and kids alike!
Another nice day option is over on Stocking Island, just across Elizabeth Harbour from Georgetown. It's a great kiteboarding spot on any east wind (Atlantic side riding - so waves and chop... but beautiful, nonetheless!) or southwest wind (harborside), and The Peace and Plenty has a nice beach club, perfect for a nice little lunch break or for non-kiting relaxation. Take the water shuttle, available from the Beach Inn 2x daily.
For late afternoon apres-kiting, head to the Chat N Chill Bar for an authentic Bahamian experience of conch salad, conch burgers, beer and good conversation.
Evenings in The Exumas are what you make them. There are some very nice restaurants serving local seafood (be forewarned, restaurants are NOT inexpensive!), you can find open-air bars along the street and in local hotels, and every night there is a "hot" spot in town. But don't expect loud parties or late night clubbing - not here.
